Nursery Environment

We aim to provide a real ‘home from home’ feeling as you enter our Nursery. We work closely with our families to get to know our children really well and we then use that information to plan carefully for their next steps of learning. Our main aim is to make Nursery a happy, welcoming and exciting learning environment where children love to play and learn.

We have created a classroom that encourages children to explore purposefully, and that has the flexibility to allow children to follow their own interests and to select resources for themselves. We use lots of natural materials and soft lighting to create a calm space, where children can talk, listen and learn from one another.

The children in Nursery learn both inside and outside and have access to both throughout each session.

We really value outdoor learning, where children can experience learning on a larger scale, experiencing nature first hand. We promote independence and let children make decisions about their own learning. We are very lucky to have a wonderful outdoor classroom at St Chad’s, which we share with the Reception class. Young children need to be active learners, and some children learn so much better outside. It allows the children to explore, move and create on a larger scale and can provide fantastic collaborative opportunities to solve problems as well as develop vital physical skills. Children can explore the weather first hand as we go outside in all weather conditions, as there is so much that can be learnt from the rain, wind and snow! There is nothing better than jumping in an enormous muddy puddle when it is pouring down!
